Hakomi Intro Workshop: A Mindful Path to Indigenous and Global Majority Healing

July 11 @ 11:30 AM - 5:00 PM PDT

$225
Hakomi Professional Training Level 2

In these turbulent times, the systems of oppression are literally pressing down on our clients in increasingly harmful ways.  As clinicians, we have a powerful opportunity—and responsibility—to be a part of our collective healing. By showing up with cultural awareness, presence, and authenticity, we create the conditions for real transformation.

Come together to explore these questions and more!

  • How do we, as Indigenous people, members of the Global Majority, or committed Allies, meet suffering with compassion and skill?
  • How do we support the authentic unfolding of our BIPOC, Queer, and other oppressed populations/clients, in order to increase their felt sense of belonging?
  • How do we, as either Indigenous, Global Majority or Allies, support all who are suffering?

Through the lens of 3 particularly relevant principles of Hakomi, we will “study” our own experiences, translate this into practical skills to support others unfolding, coupled with an opportunity to witness a “live” demonstration of the Hakomi Method!

Join us for this experiential introduction to Hakomi. You’ll learn about the foundations of our 7-month training and walk away with tools you can begin using right away to foster connection, safety, and depth in your clinical work.

This course consists of two online learning segments:

  • 1.5 hours of self-paced learning (brief video talk, Hakomi, demo session, articles and handouts) that you’ll complete at your own pace in the two-and-a-half weeks prior to our live Zoom class
  • 5.5 hours (w/ two 15-minute breaks) of online instructor-led classroom training via-Zoom, with plenty of opportunities of experiential learning, including breakout groups where you can practice new skills in a gentle and safe environment and receive immediate guidance and feedback from your instructor.

What you will learn:

  • Describe the core principles of the Hakomi Method: including mindfulness, organicity, non-violence, unity and body-mind holism.
  • Be able to recognize the link between mindfulness, organicity, and non-violence specifically as pathways to increased safety and authenticity within the therapeutic alliance.
  • Describe 2 pathways for increasing trust across social location.

This workshop is open and relevant to both clinicians and the general public. It also serves as prerequisite hours for the Hakomi Professional Skills Training starting in October. Hakomi regions outside of California may require a 2-day introductory workshop (or two 1-day workshops) to satisfy the prerequisite for their Comprehensive Training.
