ISITTA Foundations is designed to help you become a self-regulated and sustaining somatic trauma therapist. In today’s world, trauma practitioners are immersed in the same sociopolitical and environmental stress as their clients. Given that they’re experiencing many of the same collective traumas as their clients, contemporary trauma practitioners need much more than savvy trauma-informed clinical skills; it’s also essential to learn core practices for tending to their somatic wellbeing.
ISITTA Foundations will help you build a fundamental somatic repertoire to support you to develop a sustainable practice when working with trauma clients. In ISITTA training, we begin by working on ourselves, developing our own nervous system resiliency and learning to become adaptive and fluid. This allows us to work with our clients without getting overwhelmed, burned out or vicariously traumatized.
Contemporary trauma practitioners face a multidimensional and increasingly complex treatment environment. The range of traumas we encounter are not only complex, but often intertwined, from developmental trauma, to chronic and complex traumatization, to eco-trauma and pandemic trauma to collective, historical, racial and social justice trauma. Without healthy somatic resilience, our work with trauma clients can become stagnant, be prone to bias, and can leave us feeling mired in compassion fatigue. In such an environment, learning to regulate your own nervous system and tend to your own somatic wellbeing becomes increasingly more urgent.
Building on 25+ years of clinical practice and teaching, Manuela Mischke-Reeds, the founder of ISITTA training, has developed a core set of somatic practices to help trauma practitioners gain a sense of ease and confidence when working in today’s increasingly complex trauma ecosystem. ISITTA Foundations presents these unique practices and tools in a rich online learning environment that includes videos, downloadable MP3 audio files, articles, and contemplative exercises. We welcome you to join ISITTA Foundations to build a repertoire of self-regulation tools grounded in the wisdom and nourishment of your innate somatic intelligence.
Learn more from our brief introduction videos with Manuela Mischke-Reeds, founder of ISITTA and lead instructor for this training, and Joshua Sylvae, co-instructor for the training.
Listen to a guided somatic practice by Manuela. This practice, called Pulse of Life, will connect you with the innate rhythm of your breath and body. Find a quiet space for this seven-minute practice, and allow a few minutes afterwards to listen quietly to your experience. This is a sample of the kinds of self-inquiry practices you’ll experience in the ISITTA Foundations course. Enjoy.
