        Description

The Unity Principle was identified as the first and foundational principle of the Hakomi method. The Unity principle, in conjunction with mindfulness, shows us how to apply a systems lens to our therapy work. It can provide an inner map to understanding the inner ecology of a person. We will take the original concept of “parts into wholes” towards its cogent conclusion and map out the use of a practical parts- (or being-states) methodology.

How can the Unity principle inform the use of the Method with the complexity we meet in clients today? We can support interpersonal and intrapsychic communication by applying the unity principle to inform therapeutic strategy.

In this workshop, we are taking an in-depth look at how to utilize the Unity principle in moments of therapeutic choice. We will address how to work through therapeutic confusion struggle and where to go next in the session (no comma) by grounding back into mindfulness.

This workshop is a unique opportunity to learn from one of the original founding members of the Hakomi method. It is specifically designed for Hakomi trainees and therapists.

        Learning Objectives
        • You will know why the Unity Principle is at the heart of Hakomi and how to focus on this key fundamental principle intentionally to bring renewed focus to your therapy sessions.

        What You Will Learn
We'll practice a range of unity-based interventions, such as:

        • Managing consciousness with clients who have little experience with mindfulness
        • Using "parts language" to support “disidentification"
        • Mapping the Internal Ecology: Methods of Externalizing
        • Assisted "self-leadership"
        • Compassionate befriending of internal parts (or “being-states”)
        • Working (with) barriers in very direct (straightforward) and practical waysSupporting an understanding and skillful handling of human relationships
